Making one small change to your diet can have a big impact on your health and could even halve your chances of a premature death.
Replacing just 5 percent of your calories from processed meat for a plant-based alternative—such as nuts or vegetables—will dramatically reduce your risk of heart disease later in life.
Researchers at Harvard University have tracked the health and diets of around 37,000 people with an average age of 50, and discovered that even those who made even smaller changes—replacing just 2 percent of protein from processed meat for a healthier alternative—still saw their heart disease risk fall by 32 percent.
But the biggest benefits were seen in those who replaced 5 percent of meat protein.
