Like other dairy, yoghurt contains calcium, magnesium and potassium—which all help regulate blood pressure—but it has the added bonus of having bacteria that release proteins which also lower blood pressure.

Researchers from the University of South Australia tested the food on a group of 915 volunteers, who all had raised blood pressure levels.  They discovered that adding even a small amount of yoghurt to the daily diet helped bring down hypertension.

With one American dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD) every 36 seconds, it’s a simple change to the diet that should be introduced sooner rather than later, the researchers add.
